To Buy, Or Not To Buy

Hmm.. So are you one of those people who stands in the middle of the dressing room, in front of the mirror, pondering whether to by the blouse or not? Well I defiantly am!....
I am one of the worst decision makers the world has ever known, but the best way I can keep myself from loosing hours of sleep, trying to decide if I should go back and get the dress or clutch or whatever I spotted while shopping that day, is to follow these steps while I shop:
1. We all know that some things just look better on the hanger. But you don't know this until you try it on. If you see something you like, and you have the time, try it on.
2. When trying it on look at in the mirror thoroughly, looking for any snags or missing buttons. These are red flags to bad quality a cheapness.
3. If you like what you see, ask yourself "where would I wear this?", and "what would I wear this with?", but don't ask yourself if your best friend would approve of it. As Marco Pierre White once said,“Don't dress for others, dress for yourself.” The only opinion that matters is your own. Chances are your friend won't flat out tell you yellow is not your color or the pants don't fit your butt right, so how can you really trust what they say? And if you're thinking you're not sure if you like the dress and need a second opinion- you don't like it. If you have to debate yourself over wheather you simply like it or not, then its not worth getting.
4. Lastly: cost. Before you even look at the price ask your self how much you would pay for it. If the price is around what you think its worth, then its all yours. If the price is way above what you expected. Put it back. It's not worth it. And if the price is below than even better right?!!

And remember, dresses are not like boys: They are easy to figure out, returnable, refundable, and will always make you smile even when you man can't!

Thursday April 23, 2009

Today I thought a mini skirt and sandals was appropriate to wear, seeing that we are now having legit Texas weather.
I got this skirt in the kid's section and on clearance- the two places you buy stuff thinking no one else will have it, right? Wrong! I have seen a couple girls at my school wearing it already and they looked adorable in it. So getting dressed this morning I was like "Oo, man. I've got to look as cute as they did in it." P.S. To the two girls that own this skirt, if you ever read this, I praise ya'lls sense of fashion. I admire the effort you put into it every single day when I see you in the hallways and when ever I think my wardrobe choice is too bold, I'll see one of you in the halls and be like ahh and I feel more at ease . Keep up the good work please!

Thank you, Friend

Story time...
I went through kind of a "fashion depression" and didn't feel like blogging for almost two weeks. But yesterday I finally started again. I wasn't fully convinced I had my "fashion mojo" back but this morning my lovely friend and I were talking and the subject of my blog came up. She complimented what I posted yesterday and I was like "Dude, I havn't posted anything in two weeks. How did you know to look?!" Turns out she logs on every day!! She was the first one I let see my blog when I started it and even after two weeks of nothing new she still is dedicated enough to log on every day.
I won't name names or anything because she knows who she is ;) but I just want to thank her for all her support she gives me every day and for giving me "fashion mojo" back.

Professional yet Playful Volume II

Once again I played up professional...
A classic black pencil skirt, classic white ruffled blouse, hair in a bun, mod jewelry, pumps and pearls equals professional.
But the fact that the pearls are oversize, the bun is messy and the pumps are shiny make it playful.

All Business: Professional, Yet Playful

Okay I've missed almost two weeks of Blogging now and it kills me. So from here on out, I promise, its all business...
Yellow and red has always been one of my favorite color combinations. Pairing these two colors together is daring. So today I tried a variation of them- gold and maroon. A buttoned-up cardigan tucked into a high waisted skirt, paired with great shoes give this look a professional yet playful feel. And finally, to top it off some sparkly earrings!

Classic Thursday

I'm definitely overdressed for just going to school where everyone else will be in jeans. But it's always better to overdress than under dress.

Today I am covered in classics. Black and white prints. Pearls. Red mary jane stilettos. A fabulous tu-tu skirt with lavishing layers of tulle underneath. Ah..

Top: J.Crew

Skirt: F21

Neclace: Ann Taylor

Shoes: Payless (I know I couldn't believe it either!)
P.S.: The skirt has pockets! Awesome right. When it's windy like today I'll put my phone in my pocket so it won't blow up.

Bohemian Wednesday

I don't usually do Bohemian well but today theses new sandals and the warm weather defiantly inspired me. Gladators, floral prints, and beachy waves tie the whole look together.

DIY Headband

So I've been getting many compliments on this headband and decided it wouldn't hurt to reveal my secret. It took me all of ten seconds but looks so chic! Here's how: You'll need a

  • Hair Ribbon- These can be purchased at fabric stores in unlimited amounts of sizes and colors. You'll need no more than one yard.
  • Flower- F21 is a great supplier of these but you can also make them your self easily. Just make sure your flower and ribbon coordinate in color and texture.
  • And you'll need a bobby pin or barrette to attach the flower.
Tie the ribbon around your head. You may have to tie it twice to prevent it from sliding. This is great because you don't have to worry about the headband not fitting the shape of you head or being too tight behind your ears.
Place the flower on the side of the headband opposite your part. Secure with a bobby pin. And viola! You're headband is now complete.

Thank Goodness It's Friday

The weather today was a little warmer, but not quite warm enough for a summer dress and sandals. So to incorporate spring I paired together two of my favorite bright colors, hot pink and deco yellow, and wore a matching flower in my hair. This jacket is very structured but can overwhelm any ones figure if it's not paired with a well fitting jeans. And an arm full of bangles and bight pink blush completes the look.

Are We Sure It's April?

So even though its April I'm still in a knit tress, transparent tights, boots, and a swing jacket. Cream and black make for a chic color pallet. If I was feeling more darring I might put maybe light blue, magenta, or even bright purple tights underneeth instead. Hmm.. I got this dress from Old Navy a while ago and first I tried it on from the women's section and it was way too large. They had a very similar one in the kid's section that was much more flattering and it was half the price! You can't go wrong in the kid's section...
