Flippin' Your Fins You Don't Get Too Far

With Halloween just around the corner I'm starting to think about what I'm going to be this year. Yes that's right I'M NOT TOO OLD TO DRESS UP. Halloween is my favorite holiday solely for that purpose. Who doesn't want to pretend to be someone else for a night?

Here's some costume ideas that I quickly sketched....

The Queen of Hearts
from Alice In Wonderland

A Mermaid

Aphrodite the Goddess of Love

(Yes Aphrodite is naked in the painting if you're familiar with the Birth of Venus by Alessandro Botticelli, but if Aphrodite wore clothes this is what she would wear in my mind)

Unfortunately Halloween is only one night a year-
So which of the three should I be??

Painting the Roses Pink

Our inspiration or theme for this photo shoot was Alice in Wonderland. We targeted a fairy tail and whimsical look by taking pictures in the evening to give them a golden glow. We ventured into the forest hoping to discover a rabbit whole to fall into but came up short. Oh well.

Okay so I know the movie talks about "Painting the Roses Red", but I like pink better.

It was 103 degrees out so we were sweating like no other. It was gross.

Haha
..... Mad Hatter?

I actually removed alllll of the sequins on the dress because I think it took away from the classy-ness of it. It took over two hours to remove all of them by hand but the dress looks a bizzilion times classier without them.

Back to Reality...

School is back in session! Senior year here I come!
Its weird going to school and not seeing the upper class men and admiring and awing over their wardrobes. How I miss their fabulous sense of style! Em and I are all alone now but were stepping it up this year. Emma is officially addicted to second hand clothes because she, like most fashion-conscience girls on this planet, hate the idea that someone else might show up on the first day of school in the exact same outfit as you. I must say it was quite entertaining to watch what everyone way buying in the BP department at Nordstrom's this back-to-school season. Three girls in a row would come in, buy the exact same shirt, and declare it was their first day of school outfit. Oops!
Well anyways... My mom snapped a couple pictures as I was walking out the door. Excuse the horrible photographs it was still dark out when I left! Its sad when your up an hour before the sun.
My tired little brother waking up for his first day of kindergarten.
He gives the best hugs! And my sister in the background...
My other sister and I being silly.
I guess it was too early for her to make a funny face.
"Okay Samantha now pose seriously!" That's something I'm not very good at doing Mom.
Dress: F21 ( this is the comfiest dress and it was only $13 but the shoulders and close fit make it look so chic!)
Necklace: Charming Charlies
Bag: Secret (My new OBSESSION. A quilted bag is always stylish and is a classic bag that will last forever, but i got one in a nude- one of falls new trends- so this along with the studs make it more of a statement piece)
Shoes: Steve Madden, DSW (My second new OBSESSION. The cost an arm and leg but they will so be worth it!)

Hope everyone found the perfect back to school outfit & to all the friends in college I miss you guys dearly!
XOXO
Sammie

A Drop In The Ocean, A Change In The Weather

The Beach. My favorite place on earth. Nothing beats a week of running on the sand, laying under an umbrella all day, swimmimg in the salty water, throwing the football with your friends, and eating seafood every night.

Foot Prints in the Sand...

My Sister and her colorful toe nail polish. Goodness. Dress: Urban

Hat: Vintage

Peace.

Birthday Dinner

All my friends- with the exception of about two- HATE dressing up. But it was my birthday and I told them dress code was a dress and heels, and if they didnt follow they weren't coming. And, being the good friends they are, followed the dress code, but not without massive amouts of groans and complaining about how much their feet hurt. I love to watch other people suffer for my own pleasure:) Muhahhaha.
The group before we went on a progressive dinner.

My wonderful sister spent an hour making sure no two presents were wrapped in the same paper. Gotta love her<3>

My camera shy sister...
Wish my SCAD girls could have been there <3

Fraliganting.

The last two weeks I went to LA to visit FIDM and to Savannah, Georgia to visit SCAD. I took classes at both places to get a feel for what going to school there would be like. I met so many ah-mazing people and truly grew as an artist. I can not wait for college!
Stuff from FIDM

I've always wanted an orange lanyard and now i have two! Yes!

Good times.

Jar of Hearts.

During this rainy week I decided to make a skirt for my non-existent portfolio.

The Little Pink Book:
This is where I keep all my sketches and magazine clippings. I've had it for two weeks and its already overflowing! Notice the drafting paper in the back ground... Yep that's right. I drafted the pattern from scratch. It was a good one time thing but I'm crossing pattern maker off the list of possible careers!
Some flats...

Drafting paper (in pink, of course!), pattern pieces, my new french curve, all laid out on my fancy-smancy sewing table. Aka- my bed.

The finished product.
360 pleating,3 inch waistband, bubble hem.

The material was a satin with a silk weave so it created this natural stripe, which was a beautiful burden. Beautiful because it gave the fabric texture without it being a statement. But a burden because it allowed no room for mistakes. Any cut that was EXACTLY on the grain threw off the whole look of the garment- well at least in my eyes.

Worn with a vintage top form Civvies, Ziggy Soho booties, and Estee Lauder Opulent Red Lipcolor.

Little White Lies:Greece Trip

I just got back from a vacation to Greece with some of my friends, here's some pictures we took against the beautiful architecture!

The theme for this photoshoot(just in what I'm wearing) was nudes. Nudes and multiple shades of white is a a trend that appeared on the runways in Spring 2010 collections, such as Channel's. Its a good way to show off good tailoring or a good tan.

The weather was kind of dreary.

Awe its our little photographer:)

My favorite...

Ow ow!!

Three Birds of a feather...

"Door!"

Miss you Em
